In Waiting for Godot, Lucky is the slave of Pozzo. He is described as being tall and thin with a long white beard and wears a ridiculous hat. Lucky is silent for most of the play until the second act where, at Pozzo's command, he delivers a long, nonsensical and seemingly stream-of-consciousness monologue about the human condition to the other characters. Lucky's monologue is often interpreted as an indictment of the human condition as well as an exploration of the absurdity of language and communication. Lucky collapses on stage after finishing his monologue, and is later revived by Pozzo. Despite his apparent suffering, Lucky remains loyal to Pozzo and continues to follow him throughout the play.
